August 18: Pop singer Johnny Preston - of "Running Bear" fame - is 71 today.

"Running Bear"  the teenage tragedy song which hit Number one on the pop charts in 1959, was written by J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, who had died the previous year in the plane crash that also killed Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
